COVID - 19 GYM REOPENING
Your safety, and that of our staff and visitors, is a top priority and we here at Q Gym have taken all precautions to allow for a safe gym environment. In line with government guidance, we have ensured that we have followed all measures and requirements given by the government. We have made many changes to ensure we are following all guidelines.
SAFE DISTANCING
We’ve created the best solution within our gym to allow for safe distancing whilst you train. The gym has also been rearranged and clearly marked out for you to use safely, including protection screen between cardio machines to ensure safety. We will also control the numbers in the gym throughout the day as well as having specific numbers per class. Our staff will perform regular checks to ensure safety screens are allocated, floor markers and wall stickers are visual at all times.
DEEP CLEANING
Our gyms will be deep cleaned every night with high-grade anti-viral disinfectant. All staff will also clean all equipment and general are surface throughout the day. On top of this we have also provided wipes/tissue throughout the gym to allow you the option to do additional cleans before and after use. Therefore not only will cleaning be controlled by staff throughout the day, we offer self cleaning options for you to use.
HAND SANITISER
You will find lots of hand sanitising stations around the gym, both at the entrance before entering the gym and throughout the inside. We do ask that you regularly sanitise your hands whilst training but most importantly before you enter and leave the gym.
Membership Questions
When will QGYM open?
Our gyms will reopen on 12th April 2021, based on guidance announced by the government on 5th April 2021.

What are the Gym opening hours?
We have temporarily restricted the hours of gym opening to ensure that we keep staff and members safe. This means that we can also increase the level of cleaning and can run a full deep clean while the gym is shut. When your gym is open, just check the app or website for opening details.
Are you restricting numbers in the Gym?
Yes. We will limit the number of people in the gym at the same time, so members can keep a safe distance from each other. It's best to plan your visit at a quieter time to avoid having to queue.
Will I need to book to get into the Gym?
Booking slots will only be required if your gym has especially busy periods. Otherwise, you will be able to visit whenever you'd like. Although it is unlikely that your gym will require this, you will be able to book via the app and we will let you know in advance.
How long can I stay in the Gym?
We ask that members stay a maximum of 1 hour in order to keep the number of members in the gym at any time low. Visit lengths will be monitored if the gym is busy and if you are staying for longer you may receive a text to remind you of the length of your stay.
How will I get into the Gym?
You will need to use your member fob key, you can purchase one at our reception area, we also now have hand sanitising gel next to them.
Will I have to queue?
We expect queues to be very unlikely but have put safety measures in place if you do need to wait a little before getting in. You can reduce the chance of queuing by planning your visit at a quieter time, by checking the app which will show you when the club will be busy and also how many people are in the gym at that time.
Are the changing facilities and lockers available?
Yes, you can use the allocated areas to get changed. We encourage people to change before and after the gym where possible, to avoid using the changing facilities.
Are classes still running?
Yes, but we have made some changes to keep members safe. We have reduced the spaces and limited the timetable to classes that help members keep a safe distance from others. While we are getting our gyms back to normal, classes will be on a first come first serve basis rather than booking. We have limited class numbers to 10 per class. You will still see the timetable on your gym page on the app/website when the gym is open.
What will happen to my payments?
Your payment was frozen when we closed and will remain frozen until your gym re-opens. Any credit that you were due from the closure period will be credited to your membership meaning you will most likely have a reduced first payment upon opening. We will be in touch a number of days before your gym opens with all the details about your direct debit payments.
Can I still freeze my membership?
All memberships will remain frozen until your gym re-opens and we will be touch with full details before then. If you're not ready to come back when your gym is open, you will have the opportunity to extend your frozen period.
Can I cancel my membership?
There is no need for you to cancel your membership as we automatically stopped your payments when we closed. When your gym is back open, we will credit your first payment by any outstanding amount from your current monthly subscription.
Rather than cancel, you will be able to Freeze your payments before the gym reopens, although this is not ready just yet – we will be in touch before the gym reopens. If you still wish to cancel your Direct Debit membership, all you have to do is cancel your Direct Debit with your bank at least four working days before and after your next payment. However, please bear in mind you may be charged a joining fee if you want to re-join the gym. You can check you all the terms and conditions of cancelling your membership on the waiver you signed when signing up.
For any member on a fixed term membership, we will extend the length of your membership by the amount we are closed.
Will I still be able to use my personal trainer?
Yes, Personal Trainers will be able to provide safe, socially distanced training for their clients once the gyms reopen.
Will I still be able to use the classes and content on the app?
Yes, the great content on the app will be free for all members and non-members.
Is there any support for vulnerable members?
Yes, we will put a number of measures in place to support members that are in a vulnerable group. Full details will be available when your gym re-opens.
Safety Questions
How will you keep the Gym clean?
The Gym will be deep cleaned overnight and regularly through the day, using high-grade disinfectants that will kill the virus.
However, it is possible to make environments ‘safe’ by undertaking the appropriate cleaning and disinfecting measures. COVID-19 is easy to kill with most readily available domestic cleaning agents and with thorough hand washing with soap for 20 seconds or more. Coupled with safe distancing and avoidance of touching the face, together with other building environment measures, including good ventilation, a safe environment can be established and maintained.

Can physical activity help against Covid-19?
Being physically fit is highly protective against a range of illnesses. It also boosts the immune system. COVID-19 particularly affects those with underlying health conditions, diabetes etc. and those overweight. Given that the virus is now considered to be ‘endemic’ within the community, it is more important than ever to maintain one’s fitness.
Can you catch Covid-19 from sweat?
No, COVID-19 is not transmitted through sweat.
Don't forget, wiping sweat from your face could lead to the virus being passed from your hands to your face. So it is very important to regularly use hand sanitisers and avoid touching your face as much as possible.
Hand Sanitiser is now available throughout the gym, so you can easily access these throughout your gym visit.
Are Gyms higher risk than other enclosed spaces?
No, there is the same chance of getting COVID-19 in all areas indoors, the key is keeping social distancing in place, follow cleanliness guidelines and aerosolisation guidelines.
Risk is essentially divided between ‘outdoor spaces’ and the building environment, or ‘indoor spaces’. R rate (the rate the infection is spread by one person) is much higher indoors, including within households, shops, and high-occupancy workplaces. Gyms fall into this category, especially due to the increased individual activity of the occupants, but this can be mitigated through the special measures being deployed and people following the guidelines put in place.
QGym have brought in cleaning schedule, safe distancing measures, to ensure that members can work out safely.
Can I get Covid-19 from the air?
COVID-19 survives in droplets or possibly aerosols (very fine particles) and can be transmitted person to person via close contact.
At 2 metres distancing the majority of droplets fall to the ground and thus risk is greatly reduced.
Should I wear a mask to the Gym?
A mask protects people from droplet spread from an infected person to another person. It does not protect the wearer and safe distancing is probably of greater importance.
This is because the majority of droplets emitted will fall to the ground within 2 metres. Masks will also compromise physical exertion and this has to be taken into consideration when training.
At QGym you are not required to wear a mask, for this reason, however, you can do so if you would feel more comfortable.
Should I wear gloves to the Gym?
No. Gloves should be reserved for those undertaking certain tasks and are worn in hospital environments, those caring for the sick, by cleaning staff etc. Gloves can harbour a high viral load and contaminate surfaces. The individual may also transfer from glove to face in a higher dose and not touching the face and washing hands thoroughly is far more important.
Are clothes ineffective?
Clothes are considered to be a low-risk source of infection from COVID-19 and washing at 60c + kills the virus. However, they can become contaminated so should be handled with care and as always wash hands thoroughly after touching. Do not hand wash clothes. Changing clothes immediately after reaching home is strongly advised.
How can I reduce the spread of infection in the Gym to help myself and others?
First of all, stay home if you have any concerns whatsoever that you may have contracted, or been in touch with anyone infected with COVID-19.
When in the gym, following the simple guidelines: keep your distance, wash your hands, and clean down kit before and after use with the new self-cleaning stations provided. Also, try not to talk directly to people face to face, rather to one side of each other. Shouting propels droplets further. If coughing or sneezing, do so into the inside of your elbow to catch droplets.
Will members be able to clean equipment?
Yes. In addition to extensive and frequent cleaning by the gym teams, we've additional anti bacterial wipes throughout the gym so you can clean your kit before and after use, for added peace of mind.
Can I use showers?
There is no evidence that COVID-19 can be spread to humans through the use of showers. It is, therefore, safe to shower but distancing is once again paramount. Thus, the important factor is maintaining safe distancing. For the time being, we encourage members to arrive and leave in gym kit wherever possible.
